Know a Basser Who Needs a Break?

Get to that question in a sec. Here’s the deal:
As you may recollect, last year the UPS man brought me a G. Loomis NRX853C Jig & Worm rod (7′ 1″, med-heavy, extra-fast tip) with a Shimano Core 100 casting reel (6.2:1, magnesium/aluminum), courtesy of the fine folks at those companies. It is, without a doubt, the greatest rod/reel combo I’ve ever fished with. (You’d expect it to be for all that coin, and it is.)
As a guy who’s been in bassin’ media for more than a few years, I’ve fished with the latest and greatest from a lot of companies, and I say again: the greatest combo I’ve ever fished with. Period.
One o’ the perks of being on the biz side of this bassin’ parade is getting free stuff. I and many others have gotten so many free baits, line, rods, reels and other stuff that our entire families couldn’t possibly use all of it.
We’ve given most of it away, usually to kids. Not looking for applause, I’m sure you and any other red-blooded American basser would do the same thing – except for you tackle hoarders (you know who you are!).
Back to the question in the title. As much as I love the NRX and Core – and I do love them (*sniff*) – I’m giving them away, only slightly used. Why? I know life is tough for a bunch of folks out there right now, maybe this’ll make someone’s day, month, who knows. Plus I got plenty other rod/reel combos to catch the fishes.
Some of the folks out there who are hurtin’ are bassers, and no doubt they’d appreciate a job or some cash or a miracle more than an expensive rod/reel combo. But that’s all I got.
So: Anyone know someone who can really use a killer combo – and hopefully will really use it/fish with it?
Note the Following:
> The reel I have is LH retrieve. Shimano has graciously agreed to send a RH retrieve Core to the winner should he or she fish the wrong way (he he). A big THANKS and thumbs up to the folks at Shimano and Loomis.
> There are no “requirements” here for hardship – job, health, anything.
> Please DO NOT post any personal info here or on Facebook. If you want to enter someone, send me an email at jay AT bassparade DOT com, and title it “NRX/Core giveaway” so it doesn’t get lost. I’m sure it’ll be very tough to pick a winner here, but we’ll be doin’ our best.
Let’s make someone’s day, bassin’ heads. Facebook this, email it, whatever it takes to get the word out.

Nice gesture, Jay!
You da man!
Cool deal, I want it, don’t need, someone will be stoked!
Welp, first my dawg run oft, yassir. Then my wife ran off “lookin’ fer the dawg”, mmm-hmmm, but neither of’em came back. So I sez to mysef, Sef, might as well go a fishin’. Then, as I wuz racin’ to the boat ramp in the rain, I lost my boat and trailer when I got run over by a dang ole train! That’s when I knew I had written the perfect theme song for the “Bass Parade NRX/Core Giveaway”!!!
Much respect and appreciation for the noble gesture, BP. Fishing can be quite the therapeutic remedy when we can let go of the extraneous stress factors we often heap upon it. Here’s a tip of the hat to whomever needs such a remedy most and hopefully gets to go fishing “Cadillac Style”!
Hey Jay: Nice gesture. I don’t have someone to nominate…uh, other than ME! But, seriously, when you get the nominations, consider giving the rod and reel to a wounded warrior. We know that there’s lots of them out there, as shown by the various pros who have taken those heroes fishing for a day. I don’t know one or I’d nominate him/her. But, consider one of them when sorting through the nominations.
Good idea Jeff. And thanks Jay for the kindness.
I think someone will know a solider who would love that outfit.
Yes, give it to a soldier! The line is waaaaaay out the door queued up with deserving soldier bassers.
Holy smokes….Thats a combo!!!!
Those are two items I have been drooling over every time I get my bass pro catalog but being a single father that is only a fantasy to own equipment of that quality fishing is one of those passions that my 4 year old daughter and I share and and also a bond that I hope we share for the rest of our lives so hopefully I will be considered
Thank you
As in thinking that one good deed deserves another, gifting is very circular. My wife works with adults with MI/special needs and there isn’t always enough equipment to go around when they go out for the “open fishing days” here in Minnesota. Definitely a chance to make someones day and share something with another stranger!
** cheers ** to helping out others !
I personally don’t believe this combo should be given to anyone that nominated themselves. That isn’t really in the spirit of giving IMO. I can’t come anywhere near affording this setup, but consider myself pretty fortunate and think it should be given to someone truly in need. I like the idea that’s already been mentioned about giving it to a wounded warrior. I also suggest getting in contact with the make a wish foundation (it would be neat to possibly find a guide willing to thrown in trip to help break it in).
Sure would make a great door prize at one of our Fishers of Men Legacy (adault/junior) tournaments
great gesture! There is a fishing club at the high school I work at, that could handle a great combo like that.
it took me 6years 2 get a shimano rod@reel. dam smallie took it 60ft down. i only have a junk reel@ rod .fishing makes life easier.id love 2 have another cant afford 1 . 2 many dr @ med bills.
Very nice bro…very nice. Someone will be very happy. Oh yeah, whoever wins it…if you would like to trade, hit me up! haha jk Again dude…very nice gesture.
